Guest

Ack I know, I should have posted this along time ago! Its not my fault I lack the necessary qualities to finish something i start. Hell it takes me 6 hours to finisha sandwich!

Well hello! I have to say this is all rather exciting! I havent guested before and I wonder if my post might have to be forcefully edited after it is done. I never know whats up to Mr K's standards :D.

So I am writing about the powerpuff girls doujinshi. I recently was bored on the internet and so I visited the homepage of the last webcomic awards. I thought it would be a good idea to bookmark every comic that won an award and then come back and read through them at a later date, so i did.

This webcomic will probably be a fairly/really good if you have never had the chance to watch cartoon network (a sky channel of cartoons, hilarious even if you arent a kid). However if you have seen any amount of programmes on cartoon network you start to get an affinty with the characters, as you would with any programme watched for a time, and this is why this webcomic is such a good read.
At first I was blown away by the level of art work in the first couple of pages and then was amazed that the artist was able to keep it up, although this, I am led to believe, is the reason that it is a slow updating webcomic.

I cant think of much else to say at the moment and I've spent far too long not posting this. So just try it out, I found it to be fantastic!

The dream of webcomic readers

I think we all want webcomics to become mainstream. Not major mainstream- I'm not thinking Simspons level here. But I think we'd all like to be able to go up to someone, and mention a webcomic.... and not have to explain what one is, and why on earth we read it. I mean, we probably all think of ourselves as slightly nerdish- with the big comics being about roleplaying, or video games, or science fiction adventures, but we don't want to be that bad. We don't want to be the live action roleplayers.

The problem is we've become a little spoilt. We can mention Star Wars, and not get a look from most people (I'd like to point out that I asked my girlfriend out after her very first viewing of a New Hope. I am THAT cool), I mean christ we can even talk about X-MEN. So yeah, we want to talk about webcomics.

Will this happen, is the next question. Well that's the big one really. It's all to do with media exposure. I'm not talking about necessarily getting a television series made of any webcomic (although that WOULD be cool), I'm talking about minor mentions in the papers, because while the webcomics community is fairly prevelant, it's mostly linked to itself. It's the idea of people actually breaking into the community in the first place. Big print comics going online could help a LOT. Dilbert has done so, although if it does not link to many other webcomics then there is not much profit made.

Ultimately though... I'm not sure how much I care. I love webcomics, I read a stupid amount (although reading recently that Eric Burns reads about 200 a days is a bit awe inspiring), and I enjoy them all. It doesn't look like the webcomics community is going anywhere, and it seems to just be expanding. I look forwards to what the future will bring.

another plug

I mentioned this recently, but I have to say that today's entry stinks of genius. Well. For an atheist anyway.

Jack Chic Tract

Today's weekly webcomic review talks about Jack Chic reviews. Check it out, and also check out the comics. They are very funny. Unintentionally funny, but still...

H-Hi! Hello! Do you like Kises?

Whisperered Apologies is a nifty idea from the creator of Dinasour comics. Basically, someone draws a comic, and someone else writes the dialogue.

It can be absolutely hilarous. The quality varies somewhat, and it's update rate is rather slow, but for moments such as todays, it is worth it.

Copper

Theres a new Copper up. Copper is a webcomic that updates only monthly, but each one is worth the wait- the art is wonderful, the characters whimsical and amusing. The only thing that is disappointing is the fact that you have to wait a month for each one

Edible Dirt

I have seen a handful of far side imitators, but by far the best is edible dirt, which has the esoteric humour of the far side, but also hideous violence too.

It's very similar to the far side- most strips are one off (with a recent sequence being admittedly hilarious). Theres really not much to say about it. Some of the strips I do not get, but then I see an even funnier one, so it balances out. Basically, read a few strips- the ones I've linked here will do, and see if you laugh. Be warned, it is definitely not for the easily offended.

Aggro Drama

The webcomics community certainly does have a lot of squabbles. Artistic types, dontcha know? It got to the point that a webcomics tabloid was created, sadly stopped. Still, I figure it's worth reporting.

A lot of drama comes from Mr Scott Kurtz (the creator of the excellent pvp) overreacting to some such thing, in this case a new book by T Campbell (creator of lots of webcomics, notably Fans), called the History of Webcomics. The drama is too much, so I'll leave you to find the pertinent links....

An interesting feature

Undoubtedly there are hundreds of strips with this feature, but Home on the Strange is the first that I have noticed with this. It has a feature to rate the strips at the bottom.

Home on the Strange has only just got started, so it's really quite hard to tell how good it is yet, so far it has made me laugh a little bit, but right now the relationships between the characters are still a little uncertain, and the plot arcs very short. We shall see how it shall develop.

The rating system is weird though. I honestly don't see the point of it. I suppose they can see if their jokes are liked or not, but to be honest one would assume they are doing their best to be interesting and funny, and if they fail all the poll will show is that they have done so. So who knows. Still, it's kind of cute.
